Antonio Galloni | The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna il Poggio is a medium-bodied wine that needs a few years to mellow the tannins. At this tasting, the 2018 shows itself to be a Poggio with compelling aromatic presence, but perhaps a little less textural breadth than in its best years. Dried herbs, cedar, tobacco and scorched earth linger on the spicy finish. A few more years in the bottle should do the trick. The understated side of Il Poggio comes through beautifully. 94 |

James Suckling | Lots of lavender and sage with aromas of lemon blossom and cherries. Medium-bodied with firm and fine tannins that are crisp rather than chewy. Needs time to soften but is already impressive and precise. A classicism rarely found in Italy. 96P |
