Antonio Galloni | Deeply complex, the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Iacopo wafts up with a cascade of rose petals, incense, cinnamon sticks, spiced citrus rinds and dried black cherries. This is silken in texture with depths of dark red berry fruits that saturate, underscored by saline minerals and spice, all guided by a core of brilliant acidity. The 2022 finishes with tremendous length and a crunchy feel, leaving gripping tannins that tug at the palate. This truly deserves the title of Baby Brunello. What an absolutely stunning wine. The Iacopo is produced from one declassified barrel of Brunello fruit. 95P Eric Guido |
erobert parker.com | Alessandro Mori makes two Rosso di Montalcino wines, and the difference between them comes down to the selection of barrels used in the final blend. The Il Marroneto 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Iacopo has a special story because Alessandro asked his son Iacopo to choose the one barrel that becomes this wine. That process was initiated in 2019 and has been the impetus for this wine ever since. With that first vintage, Iacopo selected a barrel with a slightly darker-colored wine, lots of blackcurrant intensity and a textural profile that veers more toward Brunello than it does Rosso. He has looked to re-create those characteristics in all the vintages to follow. This is a ramped-up expression of Sangiovese with energy, youthful fruit, cassis and blood orange. 94P Monica Larner |
